Karlskrona Naval Museum
Marinmuseum sits on Stumholmen, right on the water in Karlskrona, about 35 minutes’ drive from the cabin. Karlskrona has been Sweden’s naval base since the 1680s, and the museum tells that story, from wooden sailing ships to modern submarines.
Kids usually head straight for the submarine, which you can walk through and see how cramped life on board was. Adults tend to get stuck in the hall of ship models, or with the old figureheads.
Good to know
- Entry to the main museum is free. Some special exhibitions may cost extra.
- There are real vessels moored outside, and some can be visited in summer.
- There’s a restaurant on site with a view over the water.
- Give it two to three hours. It works well on a rainy day.
Our take
You don’t need to care about naval history to enjoy it. Pair it with a walk through Karlskrona’s old town afterwards; it’s only a few minutes away.
